The Community Paediatric Department is based in the Child Development Centre (CDC) at Poole Hospital who see children across Bournemouth, Poole and East Dorset, and in special schools. 

Community Paediatricians provide services for children with physical disabilities and developmental difficulties, neurodevelopmental conditions (including ADHD and autism spectrum conditions), for Looked After Children, and statutory services for local education authorities. They run enuresis clinics and  currently 2nd tier audiology services. Specialist clinics include a Chronic Fatigue clinic and clinics for children with sensorineural hearing loss.

Eligibility criteria:
Children must be registered with a Dorset GP.
Referral process:
  • There are referral criteria which should be used. Referrals needing Consultant input should be directed to Dr Howard or Dr Morris for preschool children, wherever they live, and to Dr Kelsall for Dorset children (excluding Christchurch), Dr Renshaw for Bournemouth and Dr Mughal for Poole. Many children could be seen by the patch based SAS doctor first, and referrals can go directly to them. Children attending a special school should be referred to the school paediatrician.
