Dorset Mental Health's Sports And Leisure Activity Programme (SLAP)

Dorset Mental Health's Sports And Leisure Activity Programme (SLAP) logo

R.E.A.C.H is the new name for the Forum's long established Sports and Leisure Activity project, a programme of social and active sessions that run across the county every day of the week.

R.E.A.C.H aims to encourage participation in a range of sports and leisure activities leading to an individual experiencing a fitter and healthier life-style. We also ensure the sessions are fun, social and paced in such a way that anyone can get involved no matter their fitness.

The program has been set up for everyone's wellbeing - we recognise getting active and meeting new people can be good for everyone not just those experiencing difficulties with their mental health so you don't need to be referred to us by a GP or a support worker to get involved.

Every one of our sessions is run by a Forum peer worker, typically someone who has previously been part of the sessions as a participant and has graduated to running a group. These co-ordinators can offer peer support if required as well as signposting to other Forum and statutory services but just as importantly they are there to ensure everyone enjoys the activity and feels part of the group.

We are very happy to receive formal referrals from services and equally happy for people to turn up to an activity on the day . We are also happy to meet with new attendees beforehand to introduce ourselves and accompany them in if that would help.
