Winton Recreation Ground

A Green Flag winner in a popular urban area, Winton Rec is a much loved community area

A little slice of green space in the busy area of Winton, this recreation ground is home to lots of events and activities, including the Richmond Park bowls club, 6 tennis courts, a cycle track, playground and cricket pitch.

Local people help us to manage the bowls and tennis facilities as well as organising the Wide Awake playgroup and the annual May Sports Festival. In 2014, we won £50,000 from the People's Millions to support a project to redevelop the playground.

This money was used to create a lovely garden, designed to be accessible for play and exploration for children of all abilities. The main play area has equipment accessible for all abilities and there are quiet zones away from the hustle of the main play areas.

Despite all the activity it is also a popular area for birds and the natural mulch used in the flowerbeds is home to a number of insects.
