Support for children aged 0-25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities

Working together to make things better (co-production)

Our commitment to better co-production

BCP Council and NHS Dorset are committed to supporting local families with children and young people who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and co-production is at the heart of that commitment, which means that everyone works together on an equal basis.

Watch the video about our values and how we are working with you.

Show your support and commitment to our SEND work within our local area.  Sign up to our co-production pledge to work with us to achieve the best possible outcome at these different levels:

Personal

You know and understand your child the best, so we will work alongside you when making decisions about your children and their future. This can be via a case officer, housing and health professionals and any other key services and professionals. If you have concerns about your child find out more information on I am concerned about my child page.

Services

To help us provide the best services, we work in partnership with families to co-produce SEND support and shape our services around the people who need them.

Community

We welcome parents, carers and young people with SEND to be a part of the interview process for new members of staff within the local authority.

Our aim is to work with you and create a welcoming and supportive environment, where there is respect and open honest communication. We know that this has not always been the case in the past (as highlighted OfstedOfstedOfsted is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. It inspects services providing education and skills for learners of all ages. It also inspects and regulates services that care for children and young people. ’s 2021 inspection of SEND provision) but we are absolutely committed to making things better in the future.

Our SEND Improvement plan sets out the steps we will take to improve co-production and explains how we are making SEND services better in other areas too.

We value input and feedback, both good and bad, from all families and professionals, to help us shape the best information and services we can. This is your SEND Local OfferLocal OfferA local authority website resource that holds information on services and provision for children and young people with SEN and disabilities across education, health and social care and leisure. and we want you to be part of it.
