Special Olympics - Bournemouth & District

Special Olympics - Bournemouth & District logo

We are an international organisation providing year round opportunities for people with intellectual (learning) disabilities of all ability levels, aged 8 upwards, to train and compete in 25 sports. Special Olympics aims to improve physical fitness along with motor, cognitive and technical skills.

Special Olympics is run entirely by volunteers and we have something to offer anyone with an intellectual disability, whatever their ability level. We offer a range of sports and are actively looking to offer these opportunities to more people with intellectual disabilities. With regular training our athletes have developed enormously over the years and all have won medals at their different sports. More importantly, they feel part of a team, supporting one another and growing all the time in stature and confidence.

As well as the physical benefits that sport brings, we also help to improve our participants' social and emotional development. On top of that the families and carers of the athletes gain a valuable social outlet and support network.

We offer a variety of sports which include: Athletics, Tennis, Sailing, Badminton, Football and Table-Tennis.
