1) How do you communicate with the parent/carer whose child has SEND?
I talk to parents at start and end of day and at other times via text, phone and in person. Talk to parents and discuss how we can help and support child. Encourage home learning by sending home activities. Listen to parent’s feedback. If a parent was unhappy they should complain to LA or Ofsted.
2) How do you help children settle into your setting?
Talk to parents and find out their routine, their likes and dislikes, strengths and weaknesses etc and suggest the child comes for short periods and then builds up gradually to full days.
3) What help and support does your setting offer to children with SEND as they move rooms or move on to school?
Good communication with parent and school to tend to the child’s individual needs. I send transition form and a copy of the development tracker to the school.
4) How do you find out how each child likes to learn?
By taking time to play with them and watch them play. To listen to children’s opinion on activities and explain to parents how this learning can be continued at home, also to send home activities to encourage learning at home.
