Description:

What systems and strategies do you have in place to identify children who have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND)?

Ensure good communication is maintained between parent and carer on a daily basis. Supporting documentation will be produced and shared in the form of recorded observations, tracker monitoring, ECAT trackers. Seek support from the Early Learning Inclusion Team for support and guidance.

How will you support my child?

Your child will be supported both physically and emotionally by myself and other children within the setting will be sensitively guided to support your child’s individual needs.

How will you communicate effectively with me?

I will communicate verbally daily with you and provide written documentation through your child’s Learning Journal, diary and SEN support plan, including any specialist advice from specialist advisers.

How will the teaching and learning be matched to my child’s needs?

SMART – Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant & Timely targets will be prepared to assist with the teaching and learning of your child. Activities will be planned to meet your child’s individual needs, taking into consideration the “stage” not age” when planning.

How will you know how my child is doing and how will you help me to support my child’s learning?

Working in partnership with the parents and ensuring good daily communication is maintained will ensure that you are able to monitor your child’s progress. I will suggest different activities to work on at home with your child and seek the support of Outreach Workers from the Local Authority.

What support will you provide for my child’s overall wellbeing?

My setting provides a “home from home” environment. I care for a small group of 3 children during the day. This helps ensure that close attention and care is given to each individual child, helping to ensure that I can be sensitive to their needs, likes and dislikes and personal care. Medication is stored and administered in accordance with the statutory requirements. I aim to provide care ensuring that a child’s overall wellbeing is maintained to a very good standard.

What specialist services and expertise are available?

I have undertaken SEN training, Paediatric First Aid, Behavioural management training. I am able to seek specialist services and expertise from the Local Authority with parental consent.

What training do you have or are you receiving to support children with SEND?

I have undertaken SEN training, Paediatric First Aid, including Epi-pen training, Behavioural management training. I am also a PACEY member who provide online training and updates with regards to SEND.

How will you include my child in activities outside the setting, including trips?

Working with a small group of children, provides a greater degree of flexibility when planning activities, including trips. I can assess the small group of children in my care and taking into consideration their own individual needs and abilities, arrange accordingly. I have a range of car seats and pushchairs. I always undertake a risk assessment when I plan activities and outings, taking into consideration the children in my care at that time .

How accessible and welcoming is your setting?

My childcare setting is located on the ground floor. It also has a downstairs W.C. It is spacious, light and open plan with flowing access to the secure, back garden. My setting is inclusive and offers a wide range of good quality resources, for all, which are easily accessible.

How will you prepare and support my child to join the setting or to transfer to another setting/school?

Settling-in sessions are offered for the children. I share my policies with parents at introductory meetings and offer emotional support when necessary. When transferring to another setting/school I will complete transition to school forms, Tracker and ECAT tracker forms.

How much support will my child receive and how are decisions made?

It is important to me that any decisions made, are made in partnership with the parents. Working with a smaller group of children helps allow me to provide the necessary individual support required.

Who can I contact for further information about my child?

All professional parties, involved with the care and education of my child should be contactable. I can assist with providing contact details or signposting if necessary.

What can I do if I’m not happy with your provision for my child?

Complaints can be made initially to me, however if this is not deemed appropriate, the Local Authority Childcare Team or Ofsted can be contacted. The Ofsted telephone number is displayed on my noticeboard. I have a Complaints Policy which outlines procedures.

How can I arrange a visit to your setting? What is involved?

Visits to my setting can be arranged once initial contact and vacancies have been established. Telephone and email communication is effective and dates and times can soon be arranged.
