How do you communicate with the parent / carer whose child has SEND?
I communicate with a daily diary for parents, allowing a two-way comms. I send home a sheet with up to date information on what they will be working towards/learning and link it with their development tracker I have also promoted home learning with a sheet for the parents to fill in with any learning or achievements made at home and then they are returned to me to record on their trackers.
How do you help children settle into your setting?
I have a settling in session which is not on a set timescale, so it can be adapted to the child’s needs. I am the only staff member so all SENCO and SEND needs will be through myself, and I will be every child’s key worker.
What help and support does your setting offer to children with SEND as they move rooms or move on to school?
My rooms are a thoroughfare so they will have all access to all rooms at all times. Moving on to School, I will make sure contact is made with the new setting and all relevant information is passed on to them, including where they are in their development plan/process. I will make sure they are available for their settling in days in their new setting.
How do you find out how each child likes to learn?
Follow their development trackers and link the theme/topic to whatever progress needs to be made. I follow children’s views of enjoyments of topics and ideas. If the child is older I will ask their opinion of what they have done and ask them to contribute an idea if there is something specific they would like to do/play with. Constant talking about whether they are enjoying it and making sure it is all age relevant.
