SEND Local Offer SEND
Description:

How do you communicate with the parent / carer whose child has SEND?

I speak to parents over the phone initially to advise if we have space and details of my setting. Parents are then invited to come for a visit to speak to myself and my assistants to watch the setting in action and ask more questions. Parents are contacted via WhatsApp during the day to advise how their child is getting on or to ask any questions. We follow the EYFS and advise termly of the progress their child is making and any areas of concern, as well as next steps. Parents should always come and approach us with any concerns primarily and then hopefully things can be resolved.

How do you help children settle into your setting?

I am the SENCO. However, we all take part in the progress of the children. As we are a small setting we do have key workers, but we all get involved to assess each child’s progress. We have settling in sessions over a month to ensure that a child settles well before they come for their full hours.

What help and support does your setting offer to children with SEND as they move rooms or move on to school?

We provide transition reports to the school and parents when a child leaves for school. We also correspond, with parents permission with any other setting such as a pre school to work in conjunction towards the child’s progress. We don’t move rooms as we all use the same rooms.

How do you find out how each child likes to learn?

We watch how each child plays and try to incorporate their learning into their play. We check their progress each month and look at any gaps in their development, we then plan for next steps. We also correspond with any other settings that the child attends, as well as the parents for their input. We would encourage outside support if we thought the child needed it.

Inclusive practice / SEND training and expertise within this organisation

One of my assistants is a Qualified Primary School Teacher and has over 20 years of experience. I have completed the relevant courses and look to keep up to date.
