Section 1 - How do you communicate with the parent/carer whose child has SEND?
1a) How they can arrange a visit and/or see you in action?
A visit can be arranged via telephone, text message or email if a space is available.
1b) What are some of the things they will see to welcome them to your setting?
A welcome board in many languages is displayed as parents arrive in our setting. A bright open plan room full of interesting toys.
1c) What different ways do you use to communicate with parents?
Via telephone calls, email and text messages, we send out regular messages informing parents of our themes, planned activities and outings. We use an online software (babysdays) and send out daily diaries via this, the diaries include many pictures of our day and information about food, nappies and sleep. Learning journals are kept with parent friendly information about the EYFS and their child’s learning and development. Evening meetings can also be arranged.
1d) How can parents contribute or share ideas for you to consider to make communication with you more effective?
Two way communication is always encouraged. We send home our ‘home folders’ these include activities and ideas to encourage parents to become involved with their child’s learning, they also include a book chosen by the child for parents to enjoy with the child, parents are encouraged to add to this folder. Babysdays also involves parents by them being able to add observations photos and comments.
1e) If the parent/carer is unhappy with your provision, what should they do?
We are very happy to have a meeting with parents to discuss any concerns or worries, but where needed a complaints policy is available for parents to view at any time via babysdays this explains to parents the process to follow. An Ofsted poster is also displayed at the setting to explain the process.
Section 2 - How will you help to settle the child into your setting?
2a) State some of the things the parent/carer will see when their child first starts at your setting
A very welcoming, bright setting. We would show examples of our themes and activities and would show parents what they would receive via babysdays.
Section 3 - What help and support does your setting offer to SEND children to move rooms or move on to school?
Any help needed for a child with SEND will be provided, any guidance and training would be sought via the BCP Council, our SEND policy would be followed.
3a) How do you ensure the child is happy and learning as they move from room to room?

3b) How do you ensure the child remains happy and learning as they move from you on to another setting?
By monitoring and recording learning, transition reports are used when children progress to a new setting or school.
Section 4 - How do you understand and discover how the child learns?
4a) How do you measure the child’s learning to try to discover any additional educational needs they might have?
By observing and monitoring progress.
4b) How will you make sure that what you are teaching meets the needs of the child?
By evaluating, observations and recording. Adapting teaching where necessary. By talking to the child and the parents.
4c) How will you make sure that the child is having fun and enjoys learning through play?
By using a well arranged environment to interest and stimulate play, evaluating activities and adapting if needed. By involving the children in choosing and planning activities.
4d) Which experts and other professionals do you liaise with?
Appropriate professionals would be sought via BCP Council.
4e) When some children need a higher level of SEND support how do you go about making sure they get the support they need?
By gaining support and information from BCP Council, by information supplied by parents. SEND policy in place and available to view online, SEND folder held with appropriate referral forms.
4f) How do you ensure that the views of parents/carers and children are included in this specialist work?
By sharing information where possible and keeping parents informed of process

5a) What range of training and expertise do your staff have?
I am the settings SENCO. I have attended a SEND course and inclusion forums.
5b) What are the ways in which you fully involve children with SEN and/or disabilities?
By having a fully inclusive setting and promoting diversity.
Adapting environment where possible to be accessible to all children.
