How do you communicate with the parent / carer whose child has SEND?
Parents/carers are invited to share comments & updates via telephone, visit, text. Regular photos and updates are sent daily to parents about things we do during the day Daily diaries are kept with parents Use of an app to show child’s development compared to the Early Years Foundation milestones. Resources and suggested activities are shared with parents to support learning at home
Parents are encouraged to contribute /share ideas via text, diaries, telephone or daily catch ups @ drop off/collect times If parents are unhappy with my provision, I encourage them to discuss with me first to work out a solution but if that’s does not resolve things, parents have the option to contact either BCP Children’s services or OFSTED. These contact details are supplied in the parents pack
How do you help children settle into your setting?
Parents are encouraged to visit the setting with their child to meet myself and the children they will meet regularly too. We have settling in days where the parent can have as much or as little involvement as needed. I will visit the parent and child at home at the outset ( During Covid -19 pandemic, I will follow Government guidelines and virtual communication/ video tours are available
What help and support does your setting offer to children with SEND as they move rooms or move on to school?
Learning and development Progress reports, regular communication Parents pack available with relevant information about the setting, Early Years Foundation Scheme etc Information is provided to parents/carers about their child starting school and what is expected and a school transition document is completed with parents for sharing with the school.
How do you find out how each child likes to learn?
Discussions with parents and completed an ‘Individual needs’ form about the child’s interests and preferences Observations in my setting that are shared with parents and children Sharing of information with parents/carers about what the child has been doing at home Following the Early Years Foundation Scheme and assessing children against the milestones Planning how to develop skills and learning also shared with parents
Giving children an opportunity to contribute their views through discussion with myself and parents/carers Allowing children to choose activities to do via photos of activities/ resources Listening and observing children to find out what their interests are is key to ensuring they have fun and enjoy learning through play Sometimes it will be necessary to signpost children with parents consent to a specialist e.g. Language
