How do you communicate with the parent / carer whose child has SEND?
Following the Government guidelines and having to put COVID-19 restrictions into place we are having to alter to the way we communicate with parents / carers. At Redhill we have an online system in place called Blossom Education, parents / carers will be provided with a personal login and passwords to allow them access. This website provides parents / carers with their child’s daily blossom activity, which invites you to see what your child has done throughout the day this includes meal, sleep and toileting accidents if required. Parents / carers can also use the Blossom Education App to follow their child’s development and next steps.
This App also provides parents / carers with opportunities to share their child’s experiences outside of the nursery setting with members of the team. Specific information will be giving to parents / carers via email or alternatively telephone calls. A newsletter is sent out termly providing additional information and news of upcoming events. We are constantly staying up to date with the current Government guidelines and will notify parents / carers with any updates as we receive them.
How do you help children settle into your setting?
Redhill Day Nursery will provide your child with a keyworker on the first settle, parents / carers and child will meet their key worker in person at this meeting. All meetings / settles will be held in the garden ensuring social distancing measures are maintained. Extra settles will be provided depending on the child’s individual needs.
The nursery SENCO Luisa Hill will be introduced to these families and will attend social distance meetings or zoom meetings when required.
What help and support does your setting offer to children with SEND as they move rooms or move on to school?
Room to room transition: Current keyworker and new keyworker will attend any socially distance transition meetings either outside or via zoom. Parents/ carers will be invited to attend these meetings alongside the keyworkers and SENCO. All transition paperwork will be completed and passed on to the relevant people / room. Parents / carers will be provided with ‘a meet the team’ information sheet as well as being notified whom their child’s keyworker will be.
School transitions: key person and SENCO will have transition meeting with the new school team this will be carried out via zoom parents will be invited to join. Transition paperwork will be passed on to the relevant school, Redhill staff are always available to offer support if the school team required additional information.
How do you find out how each child likes to learn?
At Redhill we use the first settle in session with the parent to gain all information regarding the child, their likes, and dislikes as well as their preference. With this information we start our APDR (assess, plan, do review) cycle. Through the assessments we watch and look at how and what the children play with. Form this we plan more activities to try and further their learning, at the same time always referring to our EYFS documents to ensure the child is moving in age related bands.
We also use Derbyshire small steps and cognitive trackers to ensure children with SEND needs are developing. We share all information with parents through our Blossom learning app, when we come to reviewing the activity, we set next steps which are shared with the parents to ensure the children receive a combined approach to their learning.
