Information for families in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole

Bearwood Pre-School

We are situated within Bearwood Primary and Nursery School in the acorn room. We are a separate provision from the school although we do have good liaison with them and offer a collection service for the afternoon from their nursery to enable parents too access 30 hour funding. All staff have a valid first aid certificate and keep their training ongoing, this enables them to keep up to date with all new legislation and to enable us to provide your child with the best learning and care possible. We follow the early years foundation stage curriculum and each child has an account with tapestry learning journal which is supported by having their own key person and buddy, parents and carers can add observations enabling us to work together to monitor their achievements and progress during their time in the setting. We encourage partnership working with families and encourage pro-active involvement. We have staff trained in special educational needs and two designated safeguarding officers. Children have a nutritious breakfast during the morning session, encouraging healthy eating and socialisation. We provide fruit and vegetables at snack time and have a healthy eating policy in place. We provide a good variety of activities and have a lovely outdoor area which has soft play surface and a grassed area this is used throughout the year. We have small group work sessions every day with a small number of children and one adult giving the opportunity for educational based activities in a quite environment. Children are required to bring a packed lunch if attending the afternoon session which we encourage should be healthy. We collect from Bearwood Primary and Nursery School at 12:00, children can return to our setting for lunch and the afternoon session. We have a strong inclusion approach in the setting to ensure we cater for all families, making them feel welcome. We have a variety of resources that you can borrow to share with your child at home including pete the pirate, Starting out bags and sharing bags. We offer settling sessions before your childs start date, this gives you the opportunity to meet your childs key person and buddy and to ask any questions that you may have. Children can wear a uniform but this is not compulsory.

SEND Local Offer SEND
Description:

How do you communicate with the parent/carer whose child has SEND?

We communicate verbally via telephone or face to face when possible. We speak to the parents in a confidential area at a time to suit them. We can email any communications directly to the parents/carers

How do you help children settle into your setting?

We offer settling in sessions where the child and family can meet their key person and they can investigate their new environment. We would ensure we have all the information about the child to ensure that their needs are met effectively. His would be the opportunity for us to observe any changes that need to be made or any additional resources that may support your child's needs

What help and support does your setting offer to children with SEND as they move rooms or move on to school?

We support transition to school by arranging meetings with them and ensure all information is transferred in good detail. We offer new settings to come and visit them and have the opportunity to meet with the child's key person.

How do you find out how each child likes to learn?

We ask parents to complete an all about me section on our learning journey ,they can do this at a visit to the setting or at home where this can then be read by the childs key person and fed back to all staff.

Inclusive practice / SEND training and expertise within this organisation

We have two staff trained in send who update their knowledge by attending updates within the local authority. All updates are fed back to all staff so they are aware of all procedures that must be adhered too.

The information in this SEND Local Offer was completed on 26/05/2021.
