How do you communicate with the parent / carer whose child has SEND?
Verbally face to face, emails, telephone
How do you help children settle into your setting?
We work with the parents to what will work best for them and their child. They can have a settling in session and that if need slowly build up their hours.
What help and support does your setting offer to children with SEND as they move rooms or move on to school?
When going to school we have transfer meetings with the school. We are all in the same two rooms so help in moving rooms is not required. But when we have a change in routine we use our visual timetable and cards.
How do you find out how each child likes to learn?
When going to school we have transfer meetings with the school. We are all in the same two rooms so help in moving rooms is not required. But when we have a change in routine we use our visual timetable and cards
Inclusive practice / SEND training and expertise within this organisation
We include all children in the setting. Currently two members of staff are SENCO trained, along with ELKAN training. Another member of staff is in training and three members of staff have Sign-a-Long training with other staff members knowing basic signs. We have had training and hands on experience dealing with children with Autism and behaviour. We have also dealt with children with medical conditions i.e. brittle bone.
