Private fostering is when a child under the age of 16 (or 18 if they're disabled) is being looked after for 28 days or longer by someone who is not a close relative. This includes international students staying with host carers.
A close relative is defined in legislation as parent, step-parent, sibling, grandparent or aunt/uncle. The Private Fostering Team provides advise, information and support to the child/young person, their parents and private foster carer.
It is a legal requirement to notify the Local Authority of any Private Fostering arrangement.
Referrals should be made through the Children's First Response MASH - Tel: 01202 123334. Email: childrensfirstresponse@bcpcouncil.gov.uk
Alternatively, for further information or to speak to the Private Fostering team directly (see venue/contact details below).
