Dorset Mental Health Forum's sports and social activities run across the county every week - this could be anything from a game of football, having a go at crafts, gardening or just catching up over a coffee. We aim to ensure the sessions are fun, social and paced in such a way that anyone can get involved no matter their fitness or skills. The programme has been set up for everyone's wellbeing - we recognise getting active and meeting new people can be good for everyone not just those experiencing difficulties with their mental health so you don't need to be referred to us by a GP or a support worker to get involved. Every one of our sessions is run by a Forum peer specialist, typically someone who has previously been part of the sessions as a participant and has graduated to running a group. Peers can offer support if required as well as signposting to other Forum and statutory services but just as importantly they are there to ensure everyone enjoys the activity and feels part of the group, without judgement. We are very happy to receive formal referrals from services and equally happy for people to turn up to an activity on the day. We can also meet with new attendees beforehand to introduce ourselves and have a chat if that would help.
