Day Nurseries information

Day nurseries provide full or part time care for children from 6 weeks to 5 years. They are usually open Monday to Friday all year round. Opening times can range between 6am and 8pm, but 8am to 6pm is fairly standard.

Nurseries can be private, voluntary or independent. Some are based in schools and some are based in workplaces.

What will a day nursery offer my child?

Day nurseries provide a safe environment for children to “Listen, Talk, Play & Share” whilst achieving learning and development milestones, essential within the pre-school years (as outlined in the parents guide to Early Years Foundation Stage).   They also offer continuity of care until your child starts school and beyond if they are working with other types of childcare providers such as After School Clubs.

Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

Childcare settings offer inclusive provision. Settings should provide details of the support they provide for children with SEND. This can be found under the individual providers service record in the 'SEND Local Offer' tab.
