Babies with additional needs - Start for Life

Some babies may have a learning disability diagnosis, your GP and health visitor can support you and help identify the signs.  This may have occurred due to:

  • something that developed before birth
  • something during birth - for example if the baby did not get enough oxygen
  • or a premature birth

It can be sometimes be difficult to spot if your baby has a learning difficult but some early signs may include:

  • trouble with feeding, for example sucking and digesting
  • development delays, for example learning to sit or stand
