Each provision supports a personalised and high-quality education tailored to the pupils age, stage, interests, abilities and needs.
Across Longspee Academy we are able to offer provision for pupils between the ages of 5 and 16 (Key Stages 1-4) in the following way:
- Longspee Primary: Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 Pupils
- Longspee Satellite: Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 Pupils
- Longspee Secondary: Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 Pupils
Across Longspee Academy we ensure that our pupils are happy, safe and make progress on their journey to adulthood. All pupils who attend Longspee Academy have complex needs with an Education, Health and Care plan (EHCP) in the areas Social, Emotional and Mental Health and / or Autism, whilst the vast majority of our pupils present with multi-layered needs and have needs in relation to communication and interaction, cognition and learning and or physical and sensory. We work in partnership with therapeutic specialists to ensure that all needs are met and that pupils can thrive.
Longspee Academy's highly trained staff use child centred approaches underpinned by best practice in meeting the needs of pupils with autism, alongside PACE (Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy) and UPR (Unconditional Positive Regard), to build and scaffold social relationships for learning. Our personalised and specialist approaches enable our pupils to access the highest quality of education, and to enable and empower them to achieve their full potential.
Within Longspee Academy, experienced teaching and inclusion staff support pupils to ensure that they are able and ready to learn, whilst the high staff to pupil ratio enables us to flexibly identify barriers to progress and plan strategies to support achievement and aspiration. Our curriculum has a focus on the development of key core skills, personal development and positive social strategies, alongside emotional health and well-being support.
The Longspee Satellite (directly next to a mainstream Primary School in Bournemouth), allows flexible opportunity for learning and progress, and allows for an opportunity for a pupil to potentially work successfully within an environment that has a connection with a mainstream school.
As pupils progress along their learning journey, many curriculum pathways and options will be available for each pupil, which may include access to high-level GCSE qualifications, vocational qualifications or other options that would lead into a range of Post 16 options. Throughout their time at Longspee Academy, the pupil and family voice will ensure that the best outcomes are reached, with the highest of aspiration.
Longspee Academy, formerly Longspee Special School, joined Ambitions Academies Trust ("Outstanding Achievement For All") in September 2013.
