Toddler's health and wellbeing - Start for Life

After the age of one your toddler will be growing and developing rapidly. One area of your toddler’s health which is very important is healthy eating.

A healthy diet should consist of a mix of different food types and limit sugar. Sugar should not be added to food, and any sugary drinks should only be offered with meals, although ideally a toddler should be offered plain water or plain milk to drink.

There is lots of advice and guidance on what a healthy diet should look like for a toddler, including recipe ideas and resources on First Steps Nutrition. This includes ideas on snacks, mealtimes, and lunch boxes. There is also the Healthy Start scheme which can provide help, for those eligible, in buying fruit, vegetables and milk for your toddler. A healthy diet should consist of a mix of different food types and the amount sugar that is offered should be controlled.

If you have urgent concerns about the safeguarding of a baby or toddler please contact the Children's First Response team or if you have health concerns call 111.
