Working with families to provide the right support when it's needed

Speech development - Start for Life

Good communication and language skills support most other areas of a child’s development and the foundations for these skills are laid before a child is aged 3. Children begin to develop language from birth, but all children need help to develop these skills, they don’t just happen on their own. There are many resources available to support you to help your child to develop these skills through everyday activities and conversations, even if you think they are too young to understand.

However, please remember that children are all individuals and will reach milestones at different times. If you are worried about your child’s speech and language development, please speak to your health visitor or family hub.
