You said: We want to be involved in projects from the beginning

We did: Virtual workshops have been arranged with parents, carers, BCP and NHS staff to work on updating new pages for the Local OfferLocal OfferA local authority website resource that holds information on services and provision for children and young people with SEN and disabilities across education, health and social care and leisure.. The first page was live in February 2023. Young people have also been involved in the recruitment of BCP staff members including SEND Local OfferLocal OfferA local authority website resource that holds information on services and provision for children and young people with SEN and disabilities across education, health and social care and leisure. Lead.

Needs to be more accessible - videos and images. Many parents may have SEND themselves so might not understand the jargon.

We did: We co-produced the layout of titles of the home page, by either removing titles that did not have purpose or re-ordered them for a better flow of information displayed.

We did: We made the pledge more visible and added to the first paragraph on the Local OfferLocal OfferA local authority website resource that holds information on services and provision for children and young people with SEN and disabilities across education, health and social care and leisure.. We also added the pledge on the  ‘Working Together Better’ page. We have embedded a button for easy access. 

You said: You wanted us to get better at working together.

We did: The co-production team had the opportunity to collaborate with Kids.org, launching our new co-production pledges, demonstrating our joint commitment towards better working together. Our Co-Production Pledge (bcpcouncil.gov.uk)

You said: Young people - We don’t always get our voices heard when working with BCP.

We did: On-going co-production meetings are now happening between BCP Council, parents and careers and youth champions. SEND Youth Champions have been established since April 2023.

Positive achievements to be celebrated:

  • Two young people are now working with the Children and Young People group of the Child Development Centre (CDC) and have been developing a training programme for SENDiass services on Supporting young people’s participation in Steering Group Meetings.
  • Another young person has been nominated Youth Champion for BCP SEND
  • Within those working with CDC, one of the young person has been offered work experience with a film company
  • Another young person has joined the group after seeing the films
